BIO

Once aptly described as "Fairport Convention meets Cream", Tabernacle is the loud and heavy brainchild of San Francisco folkies Walker Phillips and Caira Paravel, who each released well-received solo albums in 2019. Although they’ve swapped their acoustic guitars for Les Pauls and tube amplifiers, they've not strayed from their folk roots - Tabernacle's repertoire consists exclusively of traditional folk ballads, many of which are hundreds of years old. The melodies and lyrics of these medieval ballads are retained, but the arrangements are re-imagined as psychedelic proto-metal ragers.
For the album, Phillips and Paravel recruited bassist Doran Shelley (Sweet Chariot, The Cramps, Hawkwind) and percussionist Kyle Herrenkohl (Marmalade Knives) to complete the lineup. Live, they're joined by Camilla Saufley (Assemble Head in Sunburst Sound, Golden Void) on bass and Christopher Grant on drums. Tabernacle’s live performances are a theatrical mix of storytelling, wailing guitars, and traditional singing - this experience is captured on their debut album which was recorded, mixed and mastered entirely on analog tape using only analog recording equipment...the sound is timeless, and even the most discerning collectors would believe this album is a bygone relic from decades ago.
